Towards a Sustainable and Equitable Blue Green Bio Economy

Harnessing the full potential of seaweed through cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices

Core Activites

PRODUCT INNOVATION

Facilitating innovation in extraction and biorefinery methodologies for diversifying the value of raw biomass and developing innovative novel products from seaweed.Continued research and development in this field will likely lead to even more innovative applications of seaweed and contribute to the growth of the blue and green bioeconomy.

DIVERSIFICATION OF CULTIVATED SPECIES

Tropical seaweed production currently centred around hydrocolloids (agar and carrageenan seaweeds such as Eucheuma, Kappaphycus, and Gracilaria) but potential to cultivate additional species with diversified commercial value.

INTEGRATED MULTI-TROPHIC AQUACULTURE (IMTA)

Shifting from monoculture farming systems towards a regenerative approach, using the integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) framework, whereby multiple species from different trophic levels are farmed together to counterbalance their ecosystem functions.

ECOSYSTEM SERVICES

Tackling the climate crisis and exploring the potential of new vertical markets through the development of payments for ecosystem services. Development of verification services and finance through platform and enablement of voluntary carbon credits for blue carbon projects.

Seaweed Cultivation

Seaweed is grown on floating ropes placed a few meters below the ocean surface. Young seaweed seedlings are attached to the ropes and left to grow naturally using sunlight, seawater, and ocean nutrients — no soil, fertilizers, or fresh water needed. As it grows, it absorbs carbon and supports marine life. Once mature, the seaweed is carefully harvested, dried, and processed into products for food, cosmetics, fertilizers, and sustainable materials. This creates a clean, renewable, and ocean-friendly source of value.

Live Seaweed Farm Monitoring

Satellite imagery, underwater sensors, and IoT buoys work together to track the health and growth of seaweed farms continuously. Satellites observe large-scale changes such as water temperature, chlorophyll concentration, and ocean currents. Underwater sensors measure pH, salinity, and nutrient levels right at the farm. Smart buoys transmit this data instantly to a cloud dashboard, where growth patterns, potential risks, and harvest readiness can be viewed in real time. This system allows farmers to manage entire ocean farms remotely — increasing yield, reducing manual work, and ensuring healthy, sustainable cultivation.

Seaweed Research & Development

Our R&D efforts focus on improving seaweed cultivation efficiency and expanding its commercial applications. We study optimal growing conditions, nutrient requirements, and climate resilience to enhance yield and quality. Using controlled laboratory analysis and pilot-scale ocean trials, we evaluate new farming methods, seedstock improvement, and post-harvest processing techniques. This continuous research supports the development of high-value products for food, agriculture, healthcare, and sustainable materials — ensuring long-term innovation and environmental responsibility.

Seaweed Bio-Processing

Harvested seaweed is carefully cleaned, dried, and refined through controlled processing stages to preserve its natural nutrients. Using gentle extraction and fermentation techniques, we convert raw seaweed into high-quality products such as food-grade extracts, natural fertilizers, bio-stimulants, and bio-based materials. Each step is monitored for quality, safety, and sustainability. This ensures that every product retains the environmental and nutritional benefits of seaweed while meeting industry standards for purity and performance.

Distribution & Supply Network

Processed seaweed products are packed, labeled, and prepared for shipment through our controlled distribution network. We work with certified logistics partners to ensure safe handling, climate-appropriate storage, and timely delivery to domestic and international markets. Real-time tracking and batch-level traceability maintain transparency and quality from ocean to end-user. This reliable supply chain supports consistent availability for food producers, agriculture suppliers, and industrial buyers worldwide.
